Come see the latest major addition to Penn’s collection of rare books and manuscripts at the opening of an exhibit related to the Arthur Tress Collection of Japanese Illustrated Books. The exhibit opens on September 29 in the Goldstein Gallery of the Kislak Center, located on the 6th floor of Van Pelt Library. Please note that people who are not affiliated with Penn will be required to show a photo ID and sign in with security to access the building.
The Penn Museum features an Asian Section boasting more than 25,000 objects. While only a fraction of these objects are on display at any given time, the Rotunda features an impressive collection of Chinese Buddhist artifacts and the Japan Gallery narrates the transmission of Buddhism to Japan. There are also many objects from South and Southeast Asia in the collection.
Philly is an amazing food town! In Center City, visitors can enjoy a range of delicious fare in Philadelphia’s Chinatown. Those who may be craving Asian cuisine of all sorts can also check out this handy, if woefully incomplete, restaurant guide. For those feeling adventurous, there are numerous delicious restaurants featuring Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Cambodian cuisine tucked in and around the strip malls between 5th and 12th streets along Washington Avenue. Closer to campus, check out the restaurants on Sansom Street between 34th and 36th, or visit Franklin’s Table cafeteria (34th and Walnut).
