MARAAS Exhibitors and Program Ads

We invite your participation in the Book Exhibit at the 50th Annual Conference of the Mid-Atlantic Region/Association for Asia Studies (MAR/AAS). It will be held at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on October 1-2, 2022. MAR/AAS is one of eight regional organizations of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), with a geographical scope that includes Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland, as well as Metropolitan New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Our website is: www.maraas.org.

The Conference theme is “Where Is Asian Studies Now?” Conference attendees will include faculty members at universities and colleges, independent scholars, graduate and undergraduate students, and other persons interested in Asian Studies. We expect about 140 attendees.

MAR/AAS covers a wide variety of fields, such as history, political science, economics, anthropology, philosophy and religion, arts and culture, Asian languages, and regional studies. We welcome books in all of these areas, for all the countries of East Asia, North and Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. In fact, many of our members have requested that our Book Exhibit include more books on South Asia. We also welcome books on Asian American history and culture, including literature.

At our Conference Book Exhibit, we will display your books, catalogs and order forms for a $50.00 participation fee. These items will be placed on tables adjacent to the registration area. You can send as many books and catalogs as you want. We will sell the books for half the list price and the proceeds will be donated to the education and outreach activities of the MAR/AAS. Any books that are not sold will be donated to the University of Pennsylvania, our host institution.

Please plan to have your books arrive at the University of Pennsylvania during the week of the Conference, by Thursday September 30. You can ship them to the Conference chair:

Dr. Jolyon Thomas, Associate Professor, Department of Religious Studies, University of   Pennsylvania, 201 Claudia Cohen Hall, 239 S. 36th Street, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA 19104

You can send a check for your $50.00 participation fee, made out to “Mid-Atlantic Region/AAS,” to:

Dr. Dorothy Perkins, 220 Locust St., Apt. 29-A, Philadelphia, PA 19106

If you prefer to pay by credit card, Dr. Perkins can arrange for you to do so. Please let her know as soon as possible — by September 22 at the latest — if you will be participating in our Book Exhibit and how many boxes you will be sending. Her information can be found below.

We are also accepting ads for the MAR/AAS 2022 Conference Program Booklet. The cost is $50.00 for a full-page ad, $25.00 for a half-page ad, and $15.00 for a quarter-page ad.
